Make Delicious Homemade Protein Bars And Improve Your Nutrition

By Robert Stanley

Some of the best homemade protein bars may be made very quickly. When you do it yourself, there are many more options for including the ingredients you like the best. Using your own kitchen will save money and allow for personalized flavor. Experimenting with some online recipes is a great way to create a list of favorites.

Part of the lure of health or grocery store bars is that they are already packaged. It is very simple to carry these in purse or briefcase to have as a quick way to curb hunger for anyone on the go. But the convenience also comes with a hefty price tag. Of course, the cost can be much less than a fast food meal, but calculated over the span of a month it can mount up quickly.

It takes only a few ingredients and some measuring ability to make delicious protein bars. Many are a combination of a base mix and a topping mix. Many more are comprised of completely mixed ingredients. In both cases, the layers or mix are simply poured into a baking pan, firmly pressed, and left in the refrigerator to become firm. Cutting into bars and placing in plastic zip lock bags is a good way to make them convenient and portable. Some recipes recommend keeping in the freezer, but it is not totally necessary if they will be eaten within a reasonable period of time.

Some favorite recipes have a base layer nuts and seeds mixed with protein powders and a sweet binder. Favorite nuts include macadamia or almond. Seed choices might be pumpkin or sunflower. Any of these may be eaten raw, or slightly toasted. The proteins often come from rice bran, soy powder or flax meal. Nut butters, honey or coconut oil can be added as binders.

Some popular topping layers include carob or chocolate chips mixed with other ingredients. Some health food experts make their own chocolate mixtures, but it is easy to use store bought ones. There is a distinct taste difference between carob and chocolate, so the choice here will depend on how much of a chocolate nut you might be.

While many recipes can be made without cooking a thing, others include minimal cooking requirements. Granola is often popular because it reminds people so much of eating old fashioned cereal. The advantages are that it can be eaten pretty much anywhere, with no bowl necessary.

Fans of granola will enjoy adding dried fruits, chocolate chips, organic oats, honey, seeds, maple syrup or honey, nut butters and coconut oil. Mix favorite selections into a large bowl, spread in a baking pan and bake in an oven for about thirty minutes to end up with a large quantity of this popular food. Check online health food websites for different variations.

Making homemade protein bars is a nice way to eat more of what you enjoy while focusing on your personal nutritional needs. Rather than spending enormous amounts of money on less than tasty store bought versions, consider creating your own recipes. You might find yourself eating them on a regular basis and feeling better, too.
