A List Of Important Wilderness Survival Supplies

By Charlotte McBride

One cannot go into the wilderness without the necessary equipment. If one would want to go hiking or trekking in the woods, he must at least have the basic items that he will need in order to survive. So before venturing into the jungle, make a checklist of what wilderness survival supplies to bring.

Probably the most important thing to have would be a knife. It is important to bring one because it can be used in so many situations. It can be used to cut wood, hack away plants or trees that are blocking the way, kill attacking animals, or just slicing up the food. Without a knife, one is actually defenseless in the woods and might have almost no way of surviving.

Of course one can never forget to bring his compass. It is with this tool that one will not get lost while he is walking around inside the woods. Just in case he does not where to go anymore, the compass will be able to help him find his bearing and bring him back to an area that he already passed by.

Water is one of the most essential commodities for surviving in the wild. It is common knowledge that a person can survive a maximum of three days before he becomes dehydrated. Since the journey will be quite long and may take up to more than three days, it is important to bring a lot of water to avoid getting dehydrated. It will also keep one energized so that he will not collapse in the middle of the jungle.

Aside from water, food is also very important because it gives one the proper strength and energy to continue trekking. So it is a must for one to carry some snacks and some cookware on his journey. He can eat the snacks when he takes a break from his hike and then cook some edibles that can be found in the woods.

He should also never forget to bring a lighter because without one, he will not be able to cook. One of the most essential skills would be to know how to create a fire, however, not many people know how to make one from rubbing sticks. So the best option would be to bring a lighter and a box of matches so that one will not waste any time trying to make a fire.

For safety purposes, one should never leave home without a first aid kit. While he is walking in the wild, he might fall down, get his foot stuck in a tree, or just get hurt. When this happens, it is important that he bring some medicine and some bandages just in case he gets wounded. By doing this, he will be able to get home in one piece.

Basically, those are some of the wilderness survival supplies that one should bring. One should never start a trekking journey without bringing all of these things. There are other things to bring that will help make the trip safer, but the ones mentioned above are actually the minimum requirements.
